Elon Musk’s internet firm Starlink picks Karibu Connect as its authorized reseller in Kenya

Starlink, the satellite internet company owned by Elon Musk has gone live in Kenya. The company had hinted about this launch back in January and even ahead to open pre-orders for its hardware.

The company has now picked Karibu Connect, a provider of internet connectivity solutions in East Africa as its first authorized reseller in Kenya.

Karibu Connect will extend Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency connectivity to diverse sectors in rural Kenya, including small businesses, industry, telecommunications, multi-dwelling units, education, tourism and hospitality, maritime, and government organizations.

The company says it is offering Starlink enterprise services for both fixed and mobile applications, including vehicle-mounted solutions for use on the go or on boats and ships operating both inland and offshore.

John Thuo, CEO, Karibu Connect: “Our partnership with Starlink is a substantial progression in our mission to deliver affordable, high-quality internet access to all corners of Kenya. The deployment of Starlink’s groundbreaking technology will revolutionize how rural Kenya engages with the global community, fostering societal progress and driving economic growth.”

Starlink, operated by American aerospace company SpaceX, offers a revolutionary satellite internet service that uses a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Unlike traditional satellite internet, Starlink provides high-speed, low latency connectivity, supporting services not possible with traditional satellite technology. With a global customer base exceeding 1.5 million subscribers, Starlink notes that it is at the forefront of transforming the global internet connectivity landscape.

Karibu Connect offers a suite of connectivity solutions including managed Wi-Fi, cybersecurity, and professional installation services. The company has also designed flexible hardware leasing plans to make Starlink connectivity accessible to businesses of all sizes.

Backed by an in-country support team offering 24/7 assistance, Karibu Connect says it also provides an online portal for seamless monitoring and management of all aspects of Starlink services. Tailored solutions for public Wi-Fi hotspots and 4G/5G backhaul will also be available.
