Joe Public creative team wins Gold Lion at Cannes
Joe Public Young Lions team has won Gold Lion at the Cannes Lion. The team, comprising of young creatives Bernice Puleng Mosala and Raphael Janan Kuppasamy has been awarded for a film that sought to encourage Indian children to read and write.
Kuppasamy is an integrated art director while Mosala an integrated copywriter.
On Tuesday, June 20, the creative duo were asked to create a campaign film for an app to encourage children in India to read and write, while their parents cannot read or write. The film made by the talent of Joe Public South Africa shows that you don't even need to be able to read to use an app for children.
Previously, working with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), the team came up with a film focused on prevention of teenage suicide and connecting the youth with SADAG to tackle mental health problems. SADAG wanted to communicate the need to safely engage the youth in discussing suicide and mental health, eventually tackling stigma. They won the South Africa Young Lions competition in April 2023.
The Young Lions competition offers a platform for upcoming generation of creatives to display their skills under pressure.
Kuppasamy was also recognized as The Loeries Young Creative in 2022.
Joe Public has offices in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, as well as in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Antwerp in Belgium.
